We’ve discussed this subject not a long time ago. What is the best TV?
What kind of TV to choose? Should I buy a 4K Ultra HD, or stay with a Full-HD one?
The fact is that the evolution of TV sets has not stopped. But it does not mean necessarily that everything new is good or absolutely great. Let’s analyse this.
2015 Tv buying Guide
Resolution
We got used to Full HD, and now the newer 4K Ultra HD, and lately have been hearing about 8k. But do we really need this resolution?
First of all, we don’t have enough material (or almost none) in Ultra HD 4K. Netflix is one of the most popular providers of Ultra HD content over the Internet. There are several others which began shy to stream Ultra HD content, and others who have announced they will deliver video signal in this format. If we talk about movies, since 2015 there will be launched Ultra HD blu-ray discs. Of course you also have to purchase an Ultra HD player.
The point remains that Ultra HD TVs can’t be used yet at the desired level. May be possible in the future, but now there simply aren’t enough Ultra HD videos to be worth the investment. Only if the price of Ultra HD TV that we want to buy is very close of a Full HD one. But be careful here, because instead of going to buy a cheap Ultra HD TV, which has a poor image, better head towards buying a quality Full HD TV in terms of image playback and other options.
When talking about the resolution, I need to point out the importance of the diagonal of TV sets. If you buy a 40-42 inch Ultra HD TV, and the viewing distance will be 2 -2.5 meters, you would not see the details that 4K resolution promises. The larger the diagonal is, and the smaller viewing distance we have, the more we see the smallest details, when watching a movie or a TV show processed at high resolution.
3D Television – yes or no?
When they appeared, they charmed movie fans. We all dream of surreal effects of 3D image in cinema in your own living room where we strive to amaze our friends. Many TV owners were disappointed. Most owners of 3D TVs only watch a movie once a month. Why?
First it is about the diagonal. Yes, once again is about size . The smaller the diagonal of the 3D TV is, than the three-dimensional effects in those movies are dimmed. You do not feel that a flame is coming towards you, but that stops somewhere in front of the screen.
The golden rule remains: viewing distance as small as possible + large diagonal of the TV = exceptional viewing experience. Buying small diagonal 3D TVs (people still buy 3D Smart TVs of 32 inches) for large rooms (having viewing distance of 3-3.5 meters to the TV) it is then real for many people to be frustrated by the lack of images and fascinating effects, and they choose cinemas instead.
Here intervenes, as the situation with Ultra HD TVs, the fact that there are few sources of 3D materials and I speak here of movies, TV broadcasts, games, etc.
Smart TV – will TVs with Android bring the needed fresh breath of air on the market?
Samsung talks about the introduction of own Tizen OS on its Smart TVs. Sony and Sharp will run on Android, Philips too since 2014. LG promises a revolution with its webOS 2.0.
The fact is, that we are tired of so-called Smart TVs.
TVs that can’t play a movie online, and which can’t quickly open 2 or 3 pages in a browser, those which do not support a regular Wireless keyboard … The technology is developed enough to have capable Smart TVs, as we have capable smartphones or tablets with Android.
If it was about cost, then circumstances have reached the point where the user needs speed and performance. Otherwise we don’t need a Smart TV. Various polls show that most SmartTv end up being used only as a simple television. Then why pay extra for that?
I think Android is a good solution for Smart TV, but I hope they use stable versions in order to not encounter problems like those found on mobile devices. Who wants to reset their TV or to have viruses?
Tizen OS seems a good solution and perhaps the cheapest, which means that we will pay less on such a Smart TV. But there remains the problem with the apps, what good is a cheap Smart TV, which does not have as many applications, as Android OS has?
webOS 2.0 should bring shine to new LG TVs in 2015. Speed, and then some speed again. A shorter boot time, a rapid run of any application, a menu which is loaded instantly – that’s what web OS 2.0 is supposed to be. It remains that we test what we are promised here.
What TV to buy in 2015? Which will be the best TV in 2015?
There is no such thing. All TVs have weaknesses. Even if we talk about Smart TV, 3D, Ultra HD or Android TV, there is no best TV. There is only the right TV for every one of us.
Each of us is interested in something: the best picture and sound, best internet speed of a TV, 3D images playback, lowest price, best resolution, etc. It remains to establish yourself which are the qualities you want from a TV, and then see if it is within your budget, and in some cases even to make a compromise.
