I have not reviewed a Samsung TV for a while now. For those seeking an Ultra HD TV, let’s describe them today the Samsung 40JU6400.
Design and connections
This 4K TV does not come with an impressive design. It has a classic rectangular shape and doesn’t show significant changes from last year’s models.
Only on the bottom side, a little metal insert gives this model a distinctive note. The screen frame is dark gray, in a matt shade, probably better protecting it from scratches.
As connections available on the model, Samsung 40JU6400 has 4 HDMI and 3 USB connections (one USB 3.0 also available) besides the antenna jack, optical entry and network plug. HDMI entries are made on the 2.0 standard, therefore optimized for 4K content.
For the Internet, Samsung 40JU6400 is provided with built in Wi Fi.
Image and sound
Of course, to test the image you need 4K materials which are hardly available. I tried some materials to get an opinion in this case. The contrast is pretty good, the details are perfectly visible, even if we consider lower resolutions.
There are some improvements, and talking on the palette of shades, blue tones were corrected as well as grays which are more natural now. The black level isn’t quite ok, but it is acceptable. The screen brightness seems dimmed, compared to other Samsung TVs seen these years.
On 4K resolution the TV is doing quite well, I didn’t observe image defects or problems with very small details when displayed.
The refresh rate is 100Hz, and that PQI 900 given by the manufacturer attempts to artificially inflate the number of frames. For movies I recommend you leave it off, so the picture will be more natural.
To give a personal touch to the picture, I would rate it at a 7.5 out of 10 possible.
The sound is mostly ok, maybe more problematic on high frequencies, especially if the volume is very high. As usual, I recommend using an audio system or sound bar to complete this set.
Smart TV
Of course this model is also a Smart TV.
Samsung 40JU6400 comes with Tizen OS as well as the other TVs in this range. Tizen is a pretty stable and fast OS, and I think it resembles most to Android OS.
To control it, you can use a keyboard and a mouse or the special remote from Samung.
There are many applications available: video clips, games, educational apps, applications for kids and many more.
We can mention: Facebook, Youtube, Deezer, HBO Go, Seenow and the list goes on. The browser is very capable, pages load quickly and online movies play smoothly.
Tizen OS comes in it’s latest version with all our favourite apps found a while ago only on Android devices. There are a lot of games ready to be played using remote control or gamepads. Tizen OS is compatible with PC gamepads, so you might get a decent game console with this Tv.
As another novelty, this TV allows synchronization with a smartphone. For example displaying notes, alarms or the weather, streamed from the smartphone.

Summary
A good tv if we talk about it as Smart Tv . Some problems on image and a poor sound are the negative points for this model.
Conclusion
Overall Samsung 40JU6400 is a TV of above average quality. Excels as a Smart TV and has a good image both on 4K materials and other resolutions. A limitation of this model is the 3D, a feature which they gave up.
Another minus is the price, it seems slightly unjustified for a midrange TV of some 102 cm.
