Would you like a cheap TV, a simple one, Led illuminated and with the usual diagonal of 32 inch? Here are our choices for the beginning of the year 2014. The models we have chosen for review were selected according to the price of the tv set , its features and popularity of the model.
However, we have to establish the following. A cheap LED TV should not necessarily mean an inferior quality one or a no-name one, at least for me. After all, you don’t buy a TV every year and if the image isn’t good or if certain functions work poorly you will come to the conclusion that you have thrown your money out the window and you do not want that.
Well first of all let’s see how we define a simple TV at a low price:
– It must have an acceptable image, a somewhat better contrast and an ok color palette .
– It must have a low power consumption .
– If it is possible, it needs to have the necessary connections for connecting any device ( bluray player , camcorder , notebook , etc ) .
– An ordinary media player for playing movies from a USB memory drive would be something necessary.
We have established the requirements and the minimum diagonal (81-inch, acceptable for most TVs), now let’s see what LED TVs we found at a low price:
Is an inexpensive entry model from Samsung, but has some of the features of the upper range. The design is sleek and thin, probably the thinnest LED model from the ones we have chosen. The images and colors are acceptably rendered, and the brightness is very good even for very bright rooms.
It comes with HDMI, CI + slot and USB ports to play movies, photos or music files. Moreover, the Media Player is a strong point of the Samsung TV products regardless of price.
Pros – it is very thin, with a very good media player, the screen brightness is above average and it also has a good price.
Cons – HD-ready resolution, but this isn’t a hindrance except for those who connect it to the PC and sit very close to the screen otherwise, the visual difference given by the resolution is almost zero.
LG has demonstrated in recent years that it can produce very good TVs, sometimes even better than its direct competitors. The LG 32LN570R model comes at a very low price but it also provides, in addition to a decent image, the Smart TV feature.
I know what you are going to say, that in this article we are talking about cheap and simple TVs. But the price of this model is low even if we are talking about a Smart-TV. It isn’t as elegant as the Samsung model, it is much thicker and slightly stogy. The colors are well rendered but the brightness isn’t as strong.
Pros – Smart TV with a web browser, satellite tuner besides/in addition to the land one.
Cons – lower luminosity, a less elegant look and a case similar to the old TVs from 2011 -2012.
Also from LG we have another model in our top TVs of 81 inches. Why? Well it has a small price, good features and in addition to the models listed above it has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, so we have a Full HD model.
As for its appearance it isn’t very different from the above model. The image is satisfactory, although the sound should be slightly improved. It has USB connection for playing/rendering movies and by having a higher resolution screen it can be successfully used as a monitor (of course only by connecting it via HDMI, because the VGA is missing) by connecting it to a decent video card.
Pros– good image, Full-HD screen (although the price is that of HD-Ready) IPS panel with good viewing angles.
Cons – no CI + slot although it was found to be compatible with cards offered by TV providers, lack of DTS codec on audio playback and in some cases it cannot display subtitles when playing video files from a USB memory drive.
It was impossible not to include in this group at least one cheap Sony LED TV model. Although Sony is famous for their expensive models, however they were able to make a simple TV with a good image quality and a low price.
Sony 32R420 looks good, the front part is really nice though, if we look from the side we see that it isn’t very thin/narrow on the contrary.
Why this model? Well, for the image, sound and quality of Sony. It hasn’t got many features and the USB port can be ignored. But it has great colors and contrast, the sound is well-developed without any significant distortions as we have noted on the other models listed above.
Pros – very good picture quality and sound to match. An excellent design for the front of the case.
Cons – although it has USB input it encounters difficulty in playing many video files, the price is a little high for what it offers but.. Sony.
So what do you have to say ? The order in which we presented these cheap LED TV models was at random, so it doesn’t mean that Samsung is number one. These are four simple TVs with a low price or at least acceptable, offering in return good features and much more.
Regardless of which Led TV you purchase I am sure you will be satisfied, the important thing is not to choose a TV just because it is low-cost but one that you like because it is always going to be there in front of you.
