Don’t look now but college orientations are ongoing, and classes start in late August for most colleges across the country. Your son or daughter may already be off the school, as is my daughter in about 10 days. What’s high on the wish list of most college-bound kids this fall? Well the Apple MacBook Air® surely is in the top 5.
You may have already seen our recent post on the Fire HDX 8.9 Tablet , if not please take a look. Right now we want to take a quick peek at the MacBook Air® and see why it’s in demand around college campuses. The Apple MacBook Air® is a workhorse for sure.
It comes in various configurations to suit your needs and your budget. The basic options for screen size are 11.6″ and 13.3″, with the larger size much more in demand by college students.
The hard drive capacity is 128 GB or 256 GB, with the latter costing you about $200 more at checkout. RAM is 4 GB or 8 GB but 8 GB is the way to go for sure. The unit features a fifth-generation Intel Core processor, Thunderbolt 2, with some great built-in apps, and a 12 hour battery life on the 13.3″ display model. This is a very thin and quite light computer, and it’s strong enough to take with your anywhere, and has enough power to do all of your computing needs.
The 8 GB RAM with 256 GB hard drive capacity unit sells for about $1,100 at Amazon as of this posting. For an additional $249 you can add a 3 year protection plan, which if the computer is going to be used on a college campus, may not be the worst idea !Apple 13.3″ MacBook Air dual-core Intel Core i7 2.0GHz, 8GB RAM, 256GB Flash Storage, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Mac OS X Lion
The MacBook Air® comes with Power adapter, AC wall plug and Power cord as well as Kaspersky Internet Security which will protect up to 3 devices for 6 months. It has an Intel HD Graphics 6000, Flash storage, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and a Multi-Touch trackpad. The setup is quite easy as they will walk you through it in no time.
While more expensive than many competitors, as well as your future accessories costing you a bit more….for streaming movies, listening to music , and doing college assignments, this is well worth the extra coinage for your college-bound student !
