If you are always on the run and you need to write something what are you doing if you don’t have a laptop?
There are some gadgets such as the smartphones or the tablets which solve the problem to an extent but these also pose some issues in lack of a good text editor. IOS devices offer a larger number of possibilities but lately the Androids have gained some ground and come to the aid of all of us writers.
JotterPad X is one of these apps and it definitely represents a reliable solution whenever the user is in need to (or just likes to) write something on their mobile device. The interface is a simple, minimalist one which comes in contrast with most other Android or IOS applications.
It is surprisingly easy to take out the commands, handle or modify the text. Moreover it also has an impressive number of editing options; what the user writes can take the form of an article, a fictional work, poetry or even an essay. It only depends on the user’s preferences which form the text takes and how they want to present it, JotterPad X lays all the required instruments out there for us. Other specific elements belonging to Word or other well-known editors are also included.
The users have the option of choosing their favourite font from the majority of the popular fonts and some other special ones (such as Liberation Sans, Merriweather etc.) and they can also make their own personalised settings. Furthermore the app makes the inventory process an easy one, taking Google’s or IOS 7’s design and using files which resemble cards and which show a preview of the contents.
For those who need to post their work online JotterPad X comes with the Markdown option included.
This offers a shortcut for the HTML coding syntax, making it easier to write. Cutting across all the breaks and complicated symbols, online entries become a piece of cake. However, Markdown is not accessible to everyone, being part of the Creative Version pack which comes with the app. This is available for purchase and it comes with another set of upgrades, from which the night mode.
Apart from Markdown these are not so vital and even the latter only has its use in the hands of bloggers or other virtual writers. The difference between the two is not so significant; the standard is free to download while the creative version is only 3.99 dollars.
In addition the app has a word counter to help the user keep track of the side of the text and offers a dictionary which explains the meaning of unknown words on the spot. PC or laptop fans have the option of converting the texts in PDF format and connecting the mobile device to a Bluetooth keyboard as well.
We need to make a remark about the running speed of JotterPad X while connecting to Dropbox (necessary for keeping track and an inventory of one’s writes), which considerably dropped. Opening or saving a file thus becomes a difficult task and it shows.
The app works on 7 and 10 inch tablets as well as on smartphones. And if we take into consideration that most its utilities come with the free version pack (and only one of these is included for the price of 3.99 dollars) and its great text editor qualities we really see no reason not to try JotterPad X on your Android device.
