HTC announced ever since Android 5.0 came out this summer that they will offer support for the platform on their top devices in the first three months after the system being launched.
Well, the countdown has started as Mo Versi the VP of Product Management of the company has announced that we will get the new Lollipop on HTC One M8 and M7 in the next 90 days.
The launching of the updated software is included in the HTC Advantage programme which means that users who opted for a network-free phone that was not bought from an operator will be the first to get it. The remaining devices will be updated once the operating system is checked and modified to fit the standards of any telecommunications company.
The announcement only refers to HTC M8 and M7, although the company has confirmed that they will include Android 5.0 Lollipop on other smartphones as well, including the new Desire Eye, One E8 and One Max.
It seems that the actual flagship (M8) and its predecessor are the priority for now. The fact that there is a 90-days term for that does not, however, mean that the new software will be launched in exactly three months.
The fact that the official statement was phrased as ‘in the following 90 days’ may mean an earlier launch as well if everything runs smoothly.
Unlike other older versions of Android, the new Lollipop seems to have attracted some focus from other hardware developers earlier, as HTC, Motorola, Samsung and Sony announced their lists with devices which will get the update before the system comes on the market.
