The subject of today’s article, as you found out, in the title is Leef iBRIDGE , an OTG memory that is dedicated to iPhone and iPad users.
Android users will probably raise an eyebrow, bored, wondering “so, what?” Well, my dear readers, you see … every platform has its advantages and disadvantages, its characteristics and its exclusives. Android users have been used for example to have access to a whole range of accessories, from OTG memories, to OTG adapters, sticks for TV streaming, gamepads etc. Apple is a little more restrictive on that, and the manufacturer must give its consent on many aspects regarding Apple accessories.
And if Apple makes good money “smuggling” storage space (I mean the prices of different versions of the iPhone or iPad depending on storage capacity), it means that they never had a burning desire to allow users to use an OTG memory. Therefore, this category of products is almost nonexistent, compared to the abundance of OTG options out there for Android.
Leef is a company founded in 2010 in San Francisco, California, which until recently were successful in Russia, Hong Kong and Brazil. Following this success, the company began recently marketing products in Europe and the US.
Moreover, iBridge is supported by Apple(requires a free app which can be installed from AppStore) being recognized by iPhone and iPad, and is actually a USB OTG Lightning stick.
Leef iBridge is available in versions of 16/32/64/128 / 256GB… This stick is supported by all models from iPhone 5 / 5c onwards, almost all new iPad as well as the latest model of iPod .
J shape form was chosen for the device to “mold” the iPhone or iPad, preventing accidental breaking, as much as possible. I say this because the Lightning connector is significantly more fragile and thinner than a micro USB connector.
How to use?
Obviously, very simple, it is an Apple Accessory, of course. When we have connected the device to the iPhone (for example), we will be notified that there must be installed an app, from the App Store, to use it. We get there by a simple click, install the free app and we are ready to work. The application is divided into four chapters – file transfer, content viewer (for files on the stick), iBRIDGE camera and settings.
If we choose to transfer files, we can copy photos from your iPhone to the iBRIDGE- or vice versa, or we can transfer or various other types of files, using the file manager. The application will automatically create an Inbox folder on iBRIDGE and an Outbox folder on the iPhone, in order to access them more easily.
iBRIDGE cam does exactly what the name suggests – the application uses the camera to photograph and film, but the files will be saved directly iBRIDGE, instead of being saved in the phone memory.
Is iBRIDGE useful or not? Well, that depends on you. If you never felt the need to buy an iPhone or iPad, bigger then 32GB, I would say probably not. After all, if you do not play games to occupy more than several GB, the only way you can saturate the storage capacity of a phone, is to fill it with files. These files can be pictures and movies that you make using the phone’s camera, important files you need constantly to you or multimedia material to watch(films for example) .
If you do not take pictures all the time, and you do not transfer dozens of GB on and from the phone, you may not need a larger storage capacity. On the other hand, if you are the type who travels a lot, and want to watch a season of your favorite show on the plane or train, or you want to have hours of music available, or simply make 500 photos a day, then things change.
Yes, of course, is quite easy to buy a bigger iPhone or iPad, but it is more expensive. A device as iBRIDGE however, can be used both to transport media files or important documents, but has some other advantages. First of all, you can connect it to multiple Apple devices (maybe you own both a phone and a tablet). Second, you can transfer files from iPhone to PC without the need for a Lightning cable, or to have iTunes installed and synchronized with your account.
Last but not least, every two years, or when changing the phone, you do not need to synchronize any large files, because iBRIDGE will be compatible with iPhone and iPad future models.
We remain with the conclusion that Leef iBRIDGE is a useful gadget, for users of Apple products that consume large amounts of multimedia files, looking for a quick and simple method to transfer files from PC to iPhone, and who do not want to spend an excessive amount of money a 128 GB iPhone for example.
